Am I a Montana resident?

There’s one factor that you need to remember about qualifying as a Montana resident for income tax purposes.

To be a Montana resident, you must maintain a permanent home in Montana. A “permanent home” means a dwelling place you habitually use as your residency if you leave the state temporarily with the intention of returning.

However, you can lose Montana residency for two reasons.

  1. You move outside of Montana permanently, and
  2. You have no intention of moving back.
